Meningitis B

Understandably, we have had a lot of queries about the Meningitis outbreak in Kent, and in particular, patients requesting to have the Meningitis B vaccination.

In Wales the Men B vaccine is routinely offered to babies at 8 weeks of age, 12 weeks of age and 12-13 months of age (since 2015). At this moment in time there is no vaccination process for children or adults outside of these age groups. Men B for children over the age of 2 years and/or adults can be sourced privately, unless the person is in an at risk group and we would then be guided by the patient’s consultant.

Vaccinations

Flu

Flu vaccination is particularly recommended for patients over 65 years and for patients with heart, lung and kidney disease, diabetes and low immune systems.

Carers and residents of nursing and residential homes are also advised to have a flu vaccination. Please contact our reception staff in September for details of clinic dates and to make an appointment.

If you are not able to attend clinic for your flu vaccination because you are housebound please let us know, we can then arrange for your vaccination to be done at home.

The NHS 111 Wales website provides information about who can get it, how to book and where to get the vaccine.
