Additional Services
Antenatal Care
The antenatal care is shared between community midwifes, GP surgery, hospital gynaecology and obstetric teams.
The majority of routine check-up antenatal care is provided by the community midwives and antenatal clinics are not held at the practice.
However, if you require any antenatal advice, please tell the receptionist that your request is related to antenatal care.
Cervical Smears
In line with national guidelines, we recommend cervical smears every three years for women aged 25-65 unless, of course, they have had a total hysterectomy. You may make a pre-bookable smear test appointment with the practice nurse by filling in our Request an Appointment with a Nurse form.
Contraception and Sexual Health
We offer a full range of family planning services within the practice. These include insertions and removals of subdermal contraceptive implants and removals of intrauterine devices (coils and mirena devices).
For insertions and removals of implants (Nexplanon) we have a dedicated family planning clinic.
For contraceptive advice or repeat pill prescriptions, please make an appointment during a normal surgery hours. If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a contraceptive pill review, please complete our Contraceptive Pill Review form.
For repeat pill prescriptions, you will need an annual pill check with the practice nurse. This is a safety check to ensure safe prescribing of pills.
Depo-Provera (injection) is available in a pre-bookable appointment with the practice nurse.
Please see the sexual health advice at www.fpa.org.uk for additional information regarding methods of contraception.
Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection affecting over 10% of young people in the 16-25year age group but can also occur in younger and older men and women. Free chlamydia testing is available in the surgery – just ask using our Ask the Practice a Question form.
Child Health
There is a national schedule of vaccinations and we recommend the full immunisation for all children. The practice is visited by a health visitor who normally does these scheduled immunisations.
You will receive a written invitation to book for these immunisations; it is then your responsibility to arrange the appointment with the health visitor at our practice.
If you moved to the UK from a different country, please note that each country has different immunisation schedule and we will not know routinely what your child was immunised for in the country of your previous residence. Therefore please, arrange an appointment with the health visitor and bring all evidence you have regarding your child´s immunisation.
Development and health checks are provided by the health visitors and doctors. The first check is when your child is 6 weeks old and this is normally undertaken at the same time as the mother´s post natal check. Usually on Tuesday mornings.
The health visitor will also perform checks and any immunisations at 8 months, 18 months and 3 years. There are further checks when your child starts school, that is arranged by school nurses.
Emergency Contraception
We are able to provide a full range of emergency contraceptive services.
Please, inform the receptionist as soon as possible, after the episode of unprotected or failed protection intercourse. The receptionist will ensure you receive advice the same day.
Health Promotion
The practice clinicians are able to give advice about heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure monitoring and respiratory diseases. Many of these conditions are being routinely managed by the practice nurses. The doctors and ANPs are usually only consulted if there are particular problems.
If you have been advised by the surgery to submit your blood pressure readings on a regular basis, please use our Blood Pressure Review form.
If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a breathlessness review on a regular basis, please use our Breathlessness Review form.
Minor Surgery
We are able to offer removal, biopsies or cryosurgical treatment of various small skin lesions. You will need to be referred by either a GP or ANP to access this service. Any biopsies or removed skin lesions (apart from the cryosurgically treated ones) are sent to hospital for histology to verify the nature of the skin lesion.
New Patient Health Checks
All new patients are offered a routine check when they join the practice. This enables us to acquire some information about you before we receive your notes from your previous doctor´s surgery. It also helps us to check some basic important health information such as blood pressure and a urine test.
If you moved to the UK from a different country, such check may require a longer appointment to enable us to gather all necessary information because we will not normally receive any information from your previous doctors; this will also include assessment of help needed regarding your language barrier.
Preconception Care
We are always pleased to offer advice to couples planning to start a family in the near future. We are able to check your immunity status and arrange vaccinations if necessary. We offer advice about folic acid supplements and keeping healthy for pregnancy.
Travel Vaccines
Travelling abroad? 6 to 8 weeks before you plan to travel, please complete our Travel Risk Assessment form (one per traveller) and the practice will contact you to make an appointment with one of our travel-trained nurses. At the appointment you will be able to discuss any immunisations that you require and receive travel-health advice for your destinations.
